Back when I started in this business, oil was .69 cents a gallon and service was free from many full service companies.
The mark up on the oil was then (and is today) in the area of 20% added to each gallon of oil.
The costs added were justified (and necessary) to cover the costs of offering this kind of service.
That's all changed.
Today, Full service oil companies charge the same mark up to their oil and then charge service fee's on top of that.
The average full service customer with a premium contract pays about $650. X-tra for 800 gallons of oil.
Home owners today are running for the doors and taking matters into their own hands.
Picking up a phone and calling for a delivery from a discount delivery company four or five times a year really saves some serious cash!.
But what about service?.
Botech is a professional licensed and insured service provider.

A few Facts that are important enough to mention here....
Did you know?...
#1: Many oil fired Furnaces operate at as little as 50% overall efficiency?.
#2: Did you know that gas is less efficient than oil?.
#3: The typical residential updraft Boiler will operate below 60% overall efficiency?.
#4: The CO2 / Stack heat loss test** which is done at the time of your annual service, is not a true measure of the heating units efficiency.
**(This particular test provides information pertaining to flame efficiency (AFLU) and not total overall efficiency)
Finding true efficiency is based on many variables and requires a whole house efficiency test in order to know what your unit's efficiency truly is.
Some Scotch Marine Style Boilers (such as the Buderus) can pay for their installation costs in as little as 4 years time....making this an investment that will (more than likely) out perform any stock market average for that same period of time.
Replacing your heating unit....
Botech always performs a heat loss calculation before giving a quoted price or doing an installation.
Most plumbers and some substandard oil companies will replace a heating unit using the same BTU input rating as was used on the old unit, which may or may not be what is required.
What if the old boiler was incorrectly sized?....what if the boiler's casting efficiency is different?.
A heat loss calculation takes an hour or two and can save you hundreds of dollars in fuel every year!.
If you are considering buying a home...
Have the heating system inspected by a qualified technician. The vast majority of "home inspectors" are not qualified to inspect heating systems.
Why? ....simply stated....this is not their field of expertise. That's why the final report has that disclaimer on the last page
which releases them from any responsibility for anything which they may have over looked.
Don't buy a headache ........it only takes a short time for a licensed professional to evaluate a heating system.
One more note .....
During this time of increased fuel costs, people are considering alternatives for their home.
While there are alternatives that make sense for some, most are feel good alternatives that are not real solutions.
During the 70'S we witnessed solar installations which promised to provide practically free energy once installation
was completed. In truth, the energy savings rarely paid for the installation costs, since most homeowners had already moved from that house by the time the total energy savings were seen. If a system saves $1000. a year and costs $15,000. to install, you have to stay in that home for 15 years to break even!.
Can you make that commitment?.
Will the future buyer of you home want your heating system?
Will there be someone there to service that system?
These questions are generally answered NO... after the fact.
